The MMS department aims to meet the scientific challenges posed by industrial requirements in the areas of mechanical and civil engineering, through innovative and multidisciplinary approaches. The research activities cover a wide spectrum ranging from the mechanics of materials and structures in the design of mechanisms and robots, through probabilistic methods, non-contact measurement techniques and numerical modeling of complex systems. The skills acquired concern the experimental characterization and analysis of the behavior of materials and structures, multiscale analysis of continuous and granular media, innovation methodologies, modeling and optimization of machines, mechanisms and robots, taking into account uncertainties in the modeling, design and operation of industrial systems. In addition to international collaborations, many scientific and industrial projects have been completed in the areas of mechanical and civil engineering.
